| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | Several complexes of thunderstorms that developed across South Dakota and North Dakota, moved east-southeast into central Minnesota after midnight, and then southeast across southern Minnesota, mainly southeast of the Twin Cities metro area, during the early morning of Friday, July 24th. A few thunderstorms caused brief downbursts. A few gusts of 30-45 mph were measured by area surface observations, although two areas had damage associated with stronger winds with brief bowing out of the main thunderstorm complex. ||In addition to the brief severe wind gusts, torrential rainfall occurred where thunderstorms trained. A few areas received between two to four inches from southeast of Alexandria, to the west of the Twin Cities, south to the Iowa border. Isolated pockets of four to five inches occurred just west of the Twin Cities, where Howard Lake and Cokato both received over four inches of rainfall. |
