episode_narrativeHeavy rain associated with Hurricane Irene fell across Cape May County and coastal sections of Atlantic and Ocean Counties from the late afternoon of the 17th into the early morning of the 18th. The hurricane itself passed well southeast of the state, about 225 miles offshore during the morning of the 18th. The heaviest rain in the state fell around Cape May City with Doppler Radar storm total estimates of between 2.5 and 3.0 inches. Storm totals elsewhere ranged between 1.5 and 2.5 inches. Some poor drainage flooding occurred, but no serious damage or injuries were reported. Storm totals included 2.50 inches in Beach Haven (Ocean County), 2.03 inches in Wildwood (Cape May County), 1.83 inches in Margate (Atlantic County), 1.64 inches at the Marina within Atlantic City and 1.61 inches in Harvey Cedars (Ocean County).
