episode_narrativeIn addition to the frequent lightning, the thunderstorms that rumbled through Southern New Jersey brought heavy rain with them, most of which fell within two hours. Heavy rain fell across southern Gloucester and Camden Counties as well as most of Atlantic and Cumberland Counties. Most of the heavy rain fell between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. EDT on the 14th and exited the Atlantic County coast around 530 a.m. EDT. Storm totals averaged between one and two inches. The highest amounts fell in and toward the Pine Barrens. This was the heaviest and most widespread rain event in the area since May 24th and started to chip away at the drought. The rain caused the usual poor drainage flooding problems. Storm totals included 1.72 inches in Absecon (Atlantic County), 1.47 inches at the Marina within Atlantic City and 1.00 inch in Cherry Hill (Camden County).
