episode_narrativeOn Friday October 18th, a strong low pressure system developed on a cold front over the DelMarVa Peninsula. With a high pressure system in place across Northern New England, the low intensified as it moved slowly off the Southern New Jersey Coast on the 19th.As the difference in pressures increased, strong and gusty east winds developed by Saturday morning. They transported abundant moisture from the Atlantic Ocean and caused heavy rain and minor coastal flooding.Rainfall amounts from above 3 to around 5 1/2 inches caused scattered flooding of streets and poor drainage areas. Here are selected rainfall amounts for:Middlesex County : from 3.91 inches at Middletown to 5.15 inches at Old Saybrook.New London County: from 3.27 inches at Mystic to 5.62 inches at Old Lyme.
