| episode_narrative | Rain, heavy at times, fell across extreme Southern as well as Eastern New Jersey during the first half of the day on the 19th and extended into the afternoon in northern Ocean and in Monmouth County. The heaviest rain fell around sunrise on the 19th in Southern New Jersey and from late morning into early afternoon in Northeast New Jersey. Storm totals averaged two to three inches with higher amounts in Monmouth County. This produced some urban and poor drainage flooding, but no serious flooding or damage was reported. More serious flooding and damage did occur in West Central and Northwest New Jersey.A low pressure system developed near Norfolk during the late evening of the 18th. At 8 a.m. EDT on the 19th, it was located east of Atlantic City. The low became captured by another low at higher levels of the atmosphere and consequently moved little the ensuing 24 hours. It was near Manasquan at 2 p.m. on the 19th, Allentown at 8 p.m. on the 19th, near Harrisburg at 2 a.m. on the 20th and Hagerstown MD at 8 a.m. on the 20th. Tropical moisture associated with Hurricane Lili (Which was farther east in the Atlantic.) was ingested into this low and literally was wrung out over New Jersey. The slowing of the low pressure system's forward speed prolonged the heavy rain, especially farther north in New Jersey. Representative storm totals included 4.84 inches in New Monmouth, 4.05 inches in Matawan, 3.52 inches in Brick, 3.36 inches in Estell Manor, 3.31 inches in Harvey Cedars, 3.00 inches in Glassboro, 2.42 inches in Verga, 2.28 inches in Margate and 1.78 inches in Millville. |
