| episode_narrative | More than 14,000 fish died in Curtis Creek after a thunderstorm dropped heavy rain and forced sewage into the waterway. The isolated thunderstorm drenched the western and southern portions of Quincy, but missed much of the Curtis Creek Drainage area to the east. Storm sewers were pushed to their capacity and a discharge valve at Curtis Creek opened automatically to handle the overflow, which lasted no more than 15 minutes. Debris from streets and storm sewers mixed with the raw sewage which draws oxygen from aquatic life. Since there was no runoff water from upstream to dillute the discharge, the concentration of sewage was high enough to cause the fish kill. |
