| episode_narrative | Flooding developed in the early evening in areas near the Blue Ridge, from Highlands to Cashiers, then quickly spread to include locations such as Cullowhee, Bryson City, and Cherokee. Jackson and southern Macon counties were the hardest hit, as numerous creeks and streams flooded, including the Little Tennessee River. Several homes and businesses were damaged and a few private dams were breached or damaged in Macon County. Several sections of highway 281 were washed out in Jackson County. By early morning of the 8th, flood gates were open on all Jackson County dams, and numerous rescues and evacuations were underway. |
