| episode_narrative | The combination of heavy rain and snow melt caused poor drainage flooding across central and southern New Jersey. Some creek and river flooding also occurred. The heaviest rain fell from the middle of the morning through the middle of the evening on the 6th. Over southeastern New Jersey most of the heavy rain fell during the afternoon and early evening. In Middlesex County, the combination of the heavy rain and tidal flooding along the Raritan River closed the Landing Lane Bridge between Piscataway and New Brunswick for most of the day on the 6th. Johnson Park was also flooded. Numerous roads were flooded in East Brunswick. In Burlington County, a vehicle became stuck in flood waters in Edgewater Park. Storm totals included 2.28 inches at the Atlantic City International Airport, 2.16 inches in Mount Holly (Burlington County), 2.10 inches in Willingboro (Burlington County), 2.04 inches in Mount Laurel (Burlington County), 1.96 inches in Flemington (Hunterdon County), 1.92 inches in Wrightstown (Burlington County) and Petersburg (Cape May County), 1.70 inches in Clinton (Hunterdon County), 1.68 inches in Seabrook (Cumberland County), 1.65 inches in New Brunswick (Middlesex County), 1.36 inches in Beach Haven (Ocean County), 1.25 inches in Margate (Atlantic County) and 1.18 inches in Wildwood (Cape May County). The low pressure system responsible for the heavy rain developed in the western Gulf of Mexico on the 5th. It moved northeast reaching the Tennessee Valley on the evening of the 5th and into the Great Lakes on the morning of the 6th. Its associated warm front moved north from the Carolinas on the morning of the 6th into the lower Delmarva Peninsula during the afternoon of the 6th before stalling. The occluded front associated with the primary low pressure system (It went northeast from the Great Lakes through the Saint Lawrence River Valley.) moved through the region during the night of the 6th and ended the rain. Precipitation initially began as a wintry mix during the late evening of the 5th before changing to rain during the morning of the 6th in central and southwestern New Jersey. |
