| episode_narrative | A low pressure system that developed along the Gulf Coast brought heavy rain, particularly to the southeast half of New Jersey. Rain began around daybreak on the 21st and fell heavy at times during the late morning and the first half of the afternoon. The rain ended during the early evening. The heavy rain caused ponding of water in poor drainage areas and minor flooding along the Cooper River in Camden County. The Cooper River at Haddonfield reached its 2.8 foot flood stage at 829 p.m. EST on the 21st, crested at 2.82 feet at 845 p.m. EST and was back within bankfull at 957 p.m. EST on the 21st. The intensifying low pressure system also produced strong northeast winds, with peak wind gusts of between 40 and 49 mph reported. Storm totals included 2.54 inches in Freehold (Monmouth County), 1.81 inches in Seabrook (Cumberland County), 1.80 inches in Estell Manor (Atlantic County), 1.71 inches at the Atlantic City International Airport, 1.70 inches in Atsion (Burlington County), 1.57 inches in Red Bank (Monmouth County), 1.56 inches in Mount Laurel (Burlington County), 1.55 inches in Cherry Hill (Camden County) and 1.49 inches in Somerdale (Camden County). The low pressure system developed in the Gulf of Mexico on the 19th and moved slowly northeast. It reached Georgia the morning of the 20th, North Carolina the morning of the 21st and was about 100 miles east of the New Jersey coast by the morning of the 22nd. |
