episode_narrativeA cold front moved across the region during the evening of the 14th. Thunderstorms that developed ahead and along this front produced very heavy rainfall, large hail, and winds in excess of 55 MPH. In Prince William county, marble to quarter sized hail fell in Greenwich and at Lake Jackson. A tree was downed onto a home in the northeast portion of the county where up to 2.7 inches of rain fell. Dime to nickel sized hail fell in Manassas. In Stafford County, a tree was downed onto a home. In Fauquier County, quarter to golfball sized hail damaged a vineyard near Warrenton. A total of 2.5 inches of rain fell at Broad Run. In Rappahannock County, hail fell in Massie's Corner. In Page County, trees were downed north of Luray. A total of 2.11 inches of rain fell at Rocky Branch. In Warren County, rainfall totals included 1.70 inches in Strasburg and 1.61 inches in Nineveh. In Spotsylvania County, 2.20 inches of rain fell in Spotsylvania. In Shenandoah County, 2.02 inches fell at Burnshire Dam and pea sized hail fell in Woodstock. In Loudoun County, dime to walnut sized hail fell in Ashburn where foliage was stripped and cars were dented. Dime to nickel sized hail fell near Dulles International Airport where winds gusted to 40 MPH. Dime sized hail fell with such force in Sterling that it stripped leaves from vegetation and dented cars. Rainfall totals included 1.75 inches in Ashburn and 1.05 inches at Dulles International Airport. In Fairfax County, Route 1 and Woodburn Road were closed by high water. Rainfall totals included 4.25 inches at Ft. Belvoir, 3.30 inches in Burke, 3.08 inches at Mt. Vernon, and 2.05 inches in Herndon and Annandale. A house in Oakton was damaged by a fire caused by a lightning strike. At Washington National Airport in Arlington, a wind gust of 53 MPH downed tree branches. In Falls Church, 1.96 inches was recorded. In King George County, over 3 inches of rain fell in 30 minutes near Dahlgren. Marble sized hail fell in Arlington.
