episode_narrativeLow pressure moving across southeast New England brought heavy rain to much of central and eastern Massachusetts. Many areas received 3 to 5 inches of rain, resulting in widespread urban flooding and minor flooding of rivers and streams. In Essex County, as much as 4.85 inches of rain fell in Byfield. Proctor and Goldwaith Brooks flooded Peabody Square, and flooding was also reported in Saugus and Salem. In Boston, 2.53 inches of rain fell at Logan International Airport. Flooding was reported in Kenmore Square. Middlesex County received as much as 4.55 inches of rain, which fell in Ayer. Minor flooding occurred on the Sudbury River in Ashland. Norfolk and Plymouth Counties received just under 4 inches of rain. Widespread urban flooding was reported in Brookline. Holden, in Worcester County, reported 4.40 inches of rain. Phillips Brook in Leominster flooded a portion of Route 12, and a pickup truck was stranded in flood waters. No flood damage was reported.Minor flooding then occurred on mainstem rivers and their tributaries, with crests generally up to one foot above flood stage. Specific crests of rivers which went into flood include the North Nashua River at Fitchburg (6.54 feet at 315 am on the 22nd), the Blackstone River at Northbridge (9.22 feet at 1015 am on the 22nd), the Shawsheen River at Wilmington (7.0 feet at 515 am on the 23rd), the Assabet River at Maynard (5.62 feet at 800 am on the 24th), the Nashua River at East Pepperell (8.91 feet at 545 pm on the 24th), and the Sudbury River at Saxonville (10.89 feet at 815 pm on the 24th). No flood damage was reported.Strong winds also buffeted parts of eastern Massachusetts. A peak wind gust of 54 mph was reported at the Blue Hill Observatory in Milton. At Logan International Airport in Boston, the peak wind gust of 48 mph at 422 am damaged an air traffic control radar antenna, causing delays for hundreds of Easter weekend travelers. The antenna was replaced a few days later, but flight delays continued well into the week.
