| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | Nighttime thunderstorms developed within an unstable air mass across the higher terrain of southwest North Carolina. Although several discrete cells exhibited strong rotation, only isolated large hail and isolated wind damage were reported. In addition, training thunderstorms resulted in locally heavy rainfall, with 2-4 falling in some areas in a short period of time. The combination of this heavy rainfall and a blocked culvert caused a significant flooding event in Woodfin. |
| Event narrativeevent_narrative | Fire Department reported that a little over 2 inches of rain that fell in around an hour combined with a blocked culvert to cause a small tributary of Beaverdam Creek to flood 6 homes to a depth of around 5 feet in the Brookdale Dr/Woodfin Ave area. Up to 30 people required rescue. The homes were heavily damaged by the flooding. Local COCORAHS reports showed storm total rainfall of 4 to 5 inches in this area, most of which fell in a fairly short period of time. |
