Event narrativeevent_narrativeApproximately 20 mudslides, due to rain and pre-loosened dirt, poured over Varner Road in Cathedral City in Riverside County on the morning of October 19. Thirty-eight hundredths of an inch of rain fell in the desert that day, resulting in the closure of Varner Road between Date Palm and Rio Del Sol due to an area of mud up to 60 feet wide and up to 18 inches deep. Two vehicles were trapped in the mud, which was cleared by 1000 PST October 20.
