| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | An upper level ridge of high pressure amplified over the Southern Plains during August 7th, and expanded east into much of the Ark-La-Tex on the 8th. This ridge, which resulted in sinking air that compressed atop a dry ground, allowed afternoon temperatures to climb into the mid and upper 90s across much of Southwest Arkansas, including Lafayette, Columbia, and Union Counties. In addition, low level moisture continued to pool from Southeast Oklahoma and much of Southwest Arkansas near a weak stationary front, which did not allow for much mixing, resulting in heat indices ranging from 105-110 degrees each day. However, the heat intensified by the afternoon of August 11th as the center of the upper level ridge moved east into Southwest Arkansas, where the dewpoints were not able to mix out/lower, allowing for heat indices to exceed 110 degrees and resulting in an Excessive Heat Warning to be issued for all of Southwest Arkansas with the exception of Miller County. |
