Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeAn upper level ridge of high pressure amplified over the Southern Plains during August 7th, and expanded east into much of the Ark-La-Tex on the 8th. This ridge, which resulted in sinking air that compressed atop a dry ground, allowed afternoon temperatures to climb into the mid and upper 90s across the Northern sections of Southwest Arkansas, including Little River, Sevier, Howard, Hempstead, and Nevada Counties. In addition, low level moisture pooled from Southeast Oklahoma and much of Southwest Arkansas near a weak stationary front, which did not allow for much mixing, resulting in heat indices ranging from 105-110 degrees each day.
