Heat Risk Criteria reached Moderate levels across the forecast area, with some areas in the northern Sacramento Valley and adjacent foothills reaching High to Very High levels.||Isolated nocturnal thunderstorms brought locally heavy rain to the mountains, causing a rock slide.||A period of less extreme heat came earlier in the month. A 2 year old boy died in a hot car on July 7 in south Sacramento. The high temperature in downtown Sacramento reached 100 that day.

Redding highs were 108 on the 16th, then reached 109 for 3 days in a row, from the 17th to the 19th. Lows were in the 70s, peaking at 75 on the 16th.
