| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A hot and humid airmass brought excessively high heat indices to eastern New York from the beginning of July through the Independence Day holiday. Temperatures soared as high as 99 degrees on July 1st, the hottest day of the stretch. Combined with dewpoints in the mid-70s, heat indices reached near 110 degrees in the warmest valleys. July 5th marked the sixth consecutive day reaching a temperature of 90 degrees at Albany and Glens Falls, and a seventh consecutive day at Poughkeepsie. In addition to the hot daytime temperatures, overnight low temperatures only falling into the 70s was common, which exacerbated heat-related problems. The extensive heat prompted the opening of many cooling centers across the region. |
