| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A large mid and upper level ridge of high pressure expanded from the Southern Rockies across all of the Ark-La-Tex during July 19th-23rd. Very dry conditions due to the ongoing drought conditions across much of North Louisiana combined with the compressional warming beneath the ridge resulted in afternoon temperatures ranging from 100-108 degrees each day. Limited mixing was also observed, with resultant and oppressive heat indices ranging between 106 to 112 degrees on the 19th-21st. A cold front slowly shifted southwest across North Louisiana on July 22nd, with additional compressional warming along and just south of the front resulting in near record heat for the month of July with temperatures near or in excess of 105 degrees, and oppressively high heat indices ranging from 107 to 114 degrees. The pre-frontal compressional warming continued on the 23rd, with ambient air temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, and heat indices ranging from 105 to 107 degrees. Slightly cooler and drier air spilled southwest across Westcentral Louisiana in wake of the frontal passage late in the day on the 23rd. |
