| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A large mid and upper level ridge of high pressure expanded from the Southern Rockies across all of the Ark-La-Tex during July 19th-22nd. Very dry conditions due to the ongoing drought conditions across much of North Louisiana combined with the compressional warming beneath the ridge resulted in afternoon temperatures ranging from 100-108 degrees each day. Limited mixing was also observed, with resultant and oppressive heat indices ranging between 106 to 112 degrees on the 19th-21st. A cold front slowly shifted southwest across North Louisiana on July 22nd, with additional compressional warming along and just south of the front resulting in the hottest temperatures for the month of July on record in Shreveport, with oppressively high heat indices ranging from 110 to 116 degrees. Slightly cooler and drier air spilled southwest across North Louisiana in wake of the frontal passage on the 23rd. |
