The cold front moved southeast from the central Plains on the 18th to central Missouri and Illinois on the 19th. Afternoon temperatures in the mid 90's, combined with oppressive humidity, produced heat index values in the 105 to 113 degree range both days in most areas except the far south. South of a line from Paducah to Madisonville, heat indices stayed below 105 on the 18th. Peak heat indices for this two-day event at selected cities included: 105 at Mayfield and Fort Campbell, 107 at Paducah, 108 at Murray, 109 at Madisonville, 110 at Owensboro and Henderson, and 113 at Princeton. |
