episode_narrativeA large high pressure system over the southeastern United States pumped in a hot and humid air mass across New Jersey. The hottest day was the 8th. A weak trough brought in slightly cooler and considerably drier air on the 9th, although high temperatures still reached around 90 degrees. A stronger backdoor cold front (it moved from north to south) brought in considerably cooler air into the region the evening of the 9th. New daily high temperature records were set on both the 7th (96 degrees) and the 8th (98 degrees) at the Atlantic City International Airport in Pomona. The daily record high temperature of 95 degrees was tied at the Atlantic City Marina on the 8th. In Camden County, a hotline was established for the elderly to refer them to cooler, air-conditioned locations. No serious heat related problems were reported. Highest temperatures during this hot spell included 100 degrees in New Lisbon (Burlington County), 98 degrees at the Atlantic City International Airport, Freehold (Monmouth County), East Toms River (Ocean County), Pemberton (Burlington County) and Belle Mead (Somerset County), 97 degrees in Mount Holly (Burlington County), Pennsauken (Camden County), Long Branch (Monmouth County), Iselin (Middlesex County), White House Station (Hunterdon County) and Sussex (Sussex County), 96 degrees in Chatham (Morris County), Columbia (Warren County), New Brunswick (Middlesex County), Margate (Atlantic County) and Millville (Cumberland County), 95 degrees at the Marina within Atlantic City, Trenton (Mercer County) and Cape May Courthouse and 94 degrees in Hightstown (Mercer County).
