episode_narrativeA large high pressure system over the southeastern United States pumped in a hot and humid air mass across the Delmarva Peninsula for three days. The hottest day was the 8th. A weak trough brought in slightly cooler and considerably drier air on the 9th, although high temperatures still reached around 90 degrees. A stronger backdoor cold front (it moved from north to south) brought in considerably cooler air into the region the evening of the 9th. The high temperature in Easton reached 95 degrees on the 7th and 98 degrees on the 8th, both making new daily high temperature records for the cooperative observation station. Highest temperatures reached during this hot spell included 98 degrees in Salisbury and 97 degrees at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Some students became ill in Caroline County schools on the 7th. Authorities believed it was heat related. Students were dismissed early on the 8th in all schools that did not have air conditioning. Talbot County school districts cancelled all planned outdoor activities for the 8th.
