| episode_narrative | A high pressure system that settled over the eastern part of the United States on the 20th and 21st prevented a weak backdoor cold front from completely going through New Jersey. This started a heat wave on the 22nd in the southwest part of the state that spread to the central part of the state by the 24th. The heat wave lasted up to 5 days. It started to abate on the 25th and ended on the 26th as the combination of cloudiness from a weak cold front and Hurricane Bonnie prevented temperatures from reaching the 90s. The hottest day for most areas was either the 24th or 25th. Highest temperatures included 96 degrees in Estell Manor (Atlantic County) and the Atlantic City International Airport, 95 degrees in New Lisbon (Burlington County) and East Toms River (Ocean County), 94 degrees in Belle Mead (Somerset County), Millville (Cumberland County), Pennsauken (Camden County) and Red Bank (Monmouth County), 93 degrees in Freehold (Monmouth County), New Brunswick (Middlesex County) and Somerdale (Camden County), 92 degrees in Piney Hollow (Gloucester County), Wertsville (Hunterdon County), Seabrook (Cumberland County) and Trenton (Mercer County). No heat related injuries or fatalities were reported but the combination of the high temperatures and low rainfall continued to stress the crops in farming areas. |
