| Event narrativeevent_narrative | A 20-year-old male died of apparent heat exposure after he wandered in the Everglades in search of help to repair his broken-down airboat. He and his uncle set out on the airboat from Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in southern Palm Beach County, and were about 3 miles south of the ramp in extreme northern Broward County when the airboat got stuck in the mud. High temperatures in the area that day were in the lower 90s and lowest relative humidity values were around 55 percent, producing maximum heat index values of near 105 degrees. |
