Consequently, temperatures were unseasonably warm during the first part of September. Temperatures soared into the 90s across nearly all of north and central Georgia during this period. The hottest weather was broken into two periods, one from September 3rd to September 6th, and the second from September 9th through September 12th. Atlanta recorded a maximum of 95-degrees on the 4th, 10th, and 11th. Athens had 96 degrees on the 4th, 98 degrees on the 10th and 97 degrees on the 11th. Macon reported 96 degrees on the 10th and 97 degrees on the 11th. Columbus had 96 degrees on the 4th and 5th, 98 degrees on the 10th, and a sweltering 99 degrees on the 11th. The 95-degree reading in Atlanta on the 11th tied their record for this date and the 99-degree reading in Columbus on the 11th set a new record for the date, breaking their previous record of 97 degrees set in 1962. |
