| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A large and strong high in the upper levels of the atmosphere brought a resurgence of triple digit heat. Heat indices again topped 105 degrees on a couple of afternoons. The primary utility company serving southwest Indiana set record usage peaks. This resurgence of heat was part of a longer term heat wave that lasted nearly all of August. At Evansville, this August tied the August of 1900 and 1995 for the second warmest on record. The preliminary monthly average temperature was 83.4 degrees, which was nearly a degree behind the record of 84.1 degrees set in 1936. Evansville set records for most consecutive days with highs of at least 90 and 95 degrees. Through and including August 16, there were 14 consecutive days of highs of 95 or above. The previous record was 12. Through and including August 29, there were 31 consecutive days at or above 90. This surpassed the previous record of 27 consecutive days in 1936. The high of 104 degrees on the 15th was one degree shy of the monthly record for August. There were six days with highs of at least 100 degrees. |
