| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A large and strong high in the upper levels of the atmosphere brought a resurgence of triple digit heat. Heat indices again topped 105 degrees on a couple of afternoons. This resurgence of heat was part of a longer term heat wave that lasted nearly all of August. This was the hottest August on record at Paducah. The preliminary average temperature of 83.6 degrees broke the old record for August, which was 82.9 in 1980. Paducah records extend back to 1937. The record for longest stretch of consecutive days with highs at or above 95 degrees was tied. Through and including August 19, there were 18 consecutive days of highs of 95 or above. Paducah recorded its third longest streak of days with highs of at least 90 degrees. August 24 marked the 30th consecutive day of 90-plus highs. The high temperature of 105 degrees on the 16th was one degree shy of the monthly record for August and three degrees shy of the all-time record for Paducah. The high reached at least 100 degrees on eight days during the month. |
