Widespread high temperatures reached into the mid to upper 90s and the most oppressive days (combination of heat and humidity) occurred on the 18th and 19th. Morning lows those days were only near 80 degrees in highly urbanized areas in the southwest part of the state. Afternoon heat indices reached 105 to 110 degrees. To combat the heat, many counties, cities and municipalities opened or extended the hours of cooling centers. ||Highest temperatures included 99 degrees in Belmar (Monmouth County), Washington's Crossing (Mercer County) and Berkeley Township (Ocean County), 98 degrees in Hillsborough (Somerset County), Belvidere (Warren County), Somerdale (Camden County), Westampton (Burlington County) and New Brunswick (Middlesex County), 97 degrees at the Atlantic City International Airport, Cherry Hill (Camden County), Lumberton (Burlington County), Swedesboro (Gloucester County), Andover (Sussex County) and Somerville (Somerset County), 96 degrees in Trenton (Mercer County), Piney Hollow (Gloucester County) and Stewartsville (Warren County), 95 degrees in Millville (Cumberland County) and Parsippany (Morris County), 94 degrees in Woodstown (Salem County) and Kingwood (Hunterdon County) and 93 degrees in Wildwood (Cape May County).| |A stalling cold front brought an end to the excessive heat on the 21st and to 90 degree high temperatures by the 22nd. |
