High temperatures themselves were mainly in the mid 90s. While high temperatures on the 27th were close to those on the 26th, humidity levels were a bit lower and afternoon heat index values were generally 100F or less. High temperatures on the 26th included 97 degrees in Georgetown (Sussex County), 95 degrees in Dover (Kent County) and 93 degrees at the New Castle County Airport.||This latest hot spell solidified July 2012 (with an average temperature of 81.0 degrees) as the 2nd hottest July on record in Delaware dating back to 1895. At the New Castle County Airport, the July monthly mean temperature of 80.3 degrees was the 3rd warmest on record and the 17 days in which the maximum temperature reached 90 degrees or higher tied for the 6th greatest. The unseasonably hot July helped pave the way for the 7th warmest meteorological summer on record at the New County Castle Airport with an average temperature of 76.4 degrees. Statewide it was the third warmest meteorological summer on record with an average temperature of 76.9 degrees. |
