| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | Gusty southwest winds of 20 to 35 mph brought a hot air-mass into southern Wisconsin, with maximum air temperatures reaching the lower to middle 90s, and daytime maximum heat index values of 95 or 96, beginning the afternoon of June 16th and lasting through the afternoon hours of June 20th. Overnight minimum heat index values were in the 75 to 80 range which added to any discomfort people were experiencing. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office concluded hyperthermia was the direct cause of the death of a 66-year-old female found in her home's backyard and a 60-year-old male within his home on June 21st; both in the city of Milwaukee. The Rock County Medical Examiner reported heat was the indirect cause in the death of a female in her home on June 16th. As was the case with the historical July 1995 heat wave, it is entirely possible for a person to die within a day or two of the end of a heat wave. |
