| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | Triple digit daytime temperatures and warm overnight lows gripped nearly all of north Texas for the entire month of July. A few records for daily high temperatures were set or tied, but several records for highest minimum temperatures were set. Dallas/Fort Worth set a new all-time record highest minimum temperature of 86 degrees on the 26th. The prolonged heat took its toll on North Texans and there were 15 heat related deaths; most of them occurring in Dallas County. There were many more heat related illnesses. A Heat Advisory was in effect from the 11th through the 18th, and then again from the 23rd through the end of the month. The triple digit heat this month began a streak that would challenge previous records for most consecutive 100 degree days and greatest annual 100 degree days. |

According to the medical examiner, a total of 9 people died as a result of the heat. Most of the deceased were over the age of 65 and all but one were found inside their homes. All of deaths occurred after the 14th. In addition, the medical examiner reported 223 cases of heat-related illness were treated in the county during the month. A heat advisory was in effect from the 11th through the 18th, and then again from the 23rd through the 31st. |
