Daytime air temperatures reached between 98 and 106 while heat indices reached the 110 to 115 degree range. Nighttime temperatures only fell into the 75 to 80 degree range through this period. No fatalities were reported however hundreds of cattle did perish in Ottawa County due to the heat. |

Excessive heat warning criteria were not exceeded in this area however the prolonged nature of the heat and the conditions of the feedlot contributed to the losses. The estimates of dollars losses are rough estimates based on the number of cattle lost and the estimated price per head of cattle. |
