Most high temperatures reached in the mid to upper 90s both days and combined with the humid air mass to produce afternoon heat indices of around 100F. Thunderstorms and then a cold front that moved through the area ended the excessive heat. Highest temperatures included 99 degrees in Berkeley Township (Ocean County), 98 degrees in Chatsworth (Burlington County), 97 degrees at the Atlantic City International Airport, Lumberton (Burlington County), Hillsborough (Somerset County), 96 degrees in Trenton (Mercer County), Millville (Cumberland County), Somerdale (Camden County), Seaside Heights (Ocean County), New Brunswick (Middlesex County) and Cream Ridge (Monmouth County) and 95 degrees in Rio Grande (Cape May County).||The unseasonably hot weather throughout June made June 2010 the hottest June on record in the state of New Jersey. The average monthly temperature of 74.4 degrees (5.0 degrees above average) surpassed June of 1943 by three tenths of one degree. It was also the warmest June on record at the Atlantic City International Airport with a monthly mean temperature of 75.8 degrees that surpassed June of 2008 (74.9 degrees). The 14 days with maximum temperatures of 90 degrees or higher also established a new June record (previous was 11 days in June of 1991). It was also the 2nd warmest June on record (75.4 degrees) by a tenth of a degree at Mercer County Airport as well as the 5th driest (0.98 inches of precipitation) and tied for 3rd with 10 days with maximum temperatures of 90 degrees or higher. |
