Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeAn upper-level low and attendant broad surface trough were located along the Florida panhandle. As these features moved slowly westward, an area of mid-level energy was moving across the central Florida peninsula. This combined with daytime heating, sufficient moisture, and veered southerly flow helped spark scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across east central Florida. One of these storms became strong and produced a waterspout off the extreme southeast Indian River County coast.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeSeveral reports of a waterspout offshore from Avalon State Park were received. Reports came from the Ft. Pierce and Vero Beach Air Traffic Control Towers, as well as from storm spotters.
