Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeAn otherwise benign day for showers and thunderstorms across New Mexico was interrupted by a very impressive stationary thunderstorm east of Arabela. Rainfall estimates of almost 6 inches occurred just east of highway 368. Emergency management officials indicated significant amounts of hail fell with this thunderstorm. Arroyos in this area were flooded with dangerously high water and impassable. Officials were not able to assess weather impacts farther upstream.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeSpotter observed a well-defined wall cloud with a funnel east of Arabela.
