| episode_narrative | During the morning of the 5th, a potent upper-level disturbance moved across the region while a cold front at the surface was quickly zipping through from west to east. Both of these features combined with an unstable airmass and wind energy aloft to produce high winds for a few hours. The strongest wind gusts occurred during or near showers. A particularly strong shower hit the Millsboro area (Sussex County) at around 9:45 AM EDT. The strong wind gust that was produced knocked down several trees on West State Street near Millsboro. There were also several sightings of a funnel cloud during this time around the immediate Millsboro area, however it was reported that the funnel did not make contact with the ground. Some peak wind gusts include, 59 mph at Breakwater Harbor and Sandtown, 53 mph at Dover Air Force Base, and 49 mph at Prime Hook. |
