Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeSeveral discrete thunderstorm cells moved across Brevard County and crossed the intracoastal and nearshore waters. A supercell produced a tornado along the coast in Cocoa, which briefly continued within the adjacent Indian River as a waterspout. Other storms produced wind gusts of 40 knots or greater over the Indian and Banana Rivers and the near-shore Atlantic waters. A riverboat anchored within the Indian River was overturned by the strong winds.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeA NWS storm survey confirmed that a tornado produced damage in Cocoa from near U.S. Highway 1 to the Indian River near the intersection of Dixon Boulevard and Indian River Drive. The tornado/waterspout likely continued a short distance within the Indian River before dissipating.
