Wind gusts over 34 knots were recorded at two observing sites adjacent to the Indian River. A weather spotter observed a brief waterspout within the Indian River, just offshore Merritt Island.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeA weather spotter along the Indian River in Port St. John observed a brief waterspout form approximately 3.5 miles to his northeast, just offshore the shore of Merritt Island. The waterspout lasted only 60 to 90 seconds. Photographs verified the waterspout. The waterspout formed in association with an isolated shower along a sea-breeze boundary and ahead of a line of approaching thunderstorms.
