Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA middle-to-upper level disturbance combined with steep thermal lapse rates resulted in numerous strong thunderstorms over the coastal waters surrounding the Florida Keys. The thunderstorms were nearly stationary or drifted slowly southward. Several waterspouts and gale-force wind gusts were observed.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeTwo waterspouts were observed about 4 miles southeast of Garden Key at the Fort Jefferson National Monument. Both waterspouts were observed as full condensation funnels down to the water surface.
