Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeScattered thunderstorms developed as high moisture content air in the lower to mid troposphere pushed westward over the Florida Keys on the western flank of an approaching upper level low pressure system over eastern Cuba. Isolated gale-force wind gusts and a waterspout occurred in association with the thunderstorms as they moved westward along the Lower Keys coastal waters.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeA narrow, slightly-tilted waterspout was observed south of Key West and reported via social media. The condensation funnel extended at least one third of the way from cloud base to the water surface. The waterspout moved toward the west-southwest around 15 mph, with the observer losing visual contact due to building obstructions before the waterspout dissipated.
