Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA surface trough axis moved southward across Lake Erie during the afternoon and early evening of the 19th. Low-level convergence and horizontal wind shear along the surface trough axis contributed to the development of a waterspout that accompanied showers and thunderstorms attendant to the trough axis. These showers and storms occurred in an environment comprised of weak effective bulk shear and weak lake-induced instability as Lake Erie was warm relative to overlying air and thus the primary source of heat, moisture, and instability.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeReceived video of waterspout offshore Fairport Harbor via social media. Location of waterspout estimated based on radar data.
