Convective available potential energy quickly increased to over 1,800 J/kg, likely enhancing the convective cloud growth unseasonably for early February. |
| Event narrativeevent_narrative | A brief, thin waterspout was observed by a trained spotter and NWS personnel west-southwest of Key West. The waterspout was tilted at a 45-degree angle and the condensation cloud extended one-third of the way down from the cloud base to the horizon. The waterspout moved slowly east-southeast and had a duration of about 3 minutes. Over the following 90 minutes, six additional waterspouts were confirmed along a cloud line extending southeast to southwest of the far western Lower Keys. A spray ring was visible with one waterspout as it passed south of Key West. Most waterspouts were brief in duration, however one waterspout lasted for 25 minutes. Most condensation clouds extended only a quarter of the way down from the cloud base. |
