episode_narrativeA large upper level trough located over the western U.S. was ejecting pieces of energy out over the Central Plains. Ahead of this trough at the surface, low pressure developed over eastern Colorado, helping to push a warm front north into the forecast area. The combination of these weather systems brought thunderstorms to north-central Kansas. Storms first initiated over western Kansas along the dry line, with more development later on along the warm front. Several strong to severe thunderstorms developed during the late afternoon hours and continued on well into the evening. This event was also the first in a series of nights in which many areas saw heavy rain.
