| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | Boundary layer moisture was high across the deserts of southwest Arizona following the passage of a wet winter weather system that moved across the state. As higher pressure built back into the area and skies cleared, winds decreased and this set the stage for dense morning fog on December 12th with visibility that dropped to near zero miles in some locations. A variety of sources reported dense fog; the official ASOS weather station in Yuma measured a visibility of one quarter mile at 0641MST, trained weather spotters in Yuma reported visibilities below one quarter of a mile and down as low as 150 yards. There were no reports of accidents due to the sharply restricted visibility. A Dense Fog Advisory was issued for the Yuma area beginning at 0717MST. |
| Event narrativeevent_narrative | Low level moisture remained high across the southwest Arizona deserts during the morning of December 12th following the passage of a wet winter weather system. As skies cleared and winds became light, dense fog developed across portions of the greater Yuma area. Trained spotters reported dense fog during the morning; at 0815MST a trained spotter located 7 miles southeast of Yuma reported dense fog with visibility down to about 150 yards. At about the same time another spotter 2 miles northwest of Yuma reported visibility down to one quarter of a mile in dense fog. Additionally at 0845MST the Arizona Department of Highways reported visibility below one quarter of a mile in dense fog per an ADOT highway camera. A Dense Fog Advisory was in effect at the time of the reports and there were no reports of accidents due to the sharply restricted visibility and associated hazardous driving conditions. |
