Weather forecast office sourcewfo_sourceAWOS
Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA low pressure system dropped southward along the California coast on December 29 and 30. This system did not produce much precipitation inland with a few stations measuring a few hundredths of an inch of liquid precipitation. Upslope flow behind the departing system resulted in low level moisture banking up along the Tehachapi Mountains during the evening of December 30 resulting in some dense fog for a few hours in the Tehachapi area. The fog combined with subfreezing temperatures to produce freezing fog along State Route 58. The fog broke up by late evening as lower levels dried up.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeFreezing fog with visibility below a quarter mile was reported in Tehachapi by the airport AWOS and by California Highway Patrol on SR 58.
