Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeHigh pressure built into central California during the morning of December 5 behind the departing storm which impacted the area the day before. This brought clearing skies and diminished winds to portions of the San Joaquin Valley. Areas of dense fog formed along the Interstate 5 corridor in Kern County where a fatal collision between two vehicles took place. Dense fog was also reported in Merced County along State Route 99 where visibility was reduced to below a quarter mile.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeCalifornia Highway Patrol reported dense fog on Interstate 5 in Buttonwillow around 500 am PST. At 508 am PST, a collision between a semi-truck and a white Nissan Altima occurred on northbound Interstate 5 just north of the rest area. An occupant of the Nissan was killed in the collision.
