| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A potent upper level storm system moved slowly east through the Great Basin while a sharp dryline set up over far west Texas. The combination of strong winds aloft with a weak mid level moisture over central New Mexico created a couple virga bombs on the afternoon of the 15th. As the upper level storm system approached from the west the dryline surged westward and set up for the first time this spring over far eastern New Mexico late on the 15th. Several strong thunderstorms developed over Union County, one of which produced half dollar size hail near Seneca. As the upper storm system moved closer widespread rain and mountain snow impacted northern and western New Mexico from the 15th through the 16th. Snowfall amounts between 4 and 8 inches were common over the high terrain, however impacts were minimal to travel. An area of dense fog and snow along Highway 285 north of Santa Fe resulted in a seven car pile up with several injuries. |
