| episode_narrative | The combination of heavy rain, humid air moving over the snow pack and relatively light winds produced widespread dense fog across New Jersey from the evening of the 22nd through the morning of the 23rd. Widespread visibilities were under one quarter of a mile. Visibilities improved around Noon EST on the 23rd once a strong low pressure system exited the region and winds increased from the west and northwest. The entire length of the New Jersey Turnpike was closed because of the dense fog from 1030 a.m. EST through 1 p.m. EST on the 23rd. It was the first time the Turnpike was closed since the blizzard in 1996 and the first time it was closed because of fog since 1982. In Medford (Burlington County), ten accidents on New Jersey State Route 70 closed the roadways for three and a half hours on the 23rd. |
