Weather forecast office sourcewfo_sourceAWOS
Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA shortwave trough brought rain and snowfall to the Abajo mountains and surrounding areas on November 23. Overnight, the trough moved out of the region. A weak pressure gradient made for calmer winds, and a drying mid-level atmosphere cleared skies. With the recent precipitation though, low-level moisture remained pooled over southeastern Utah leading to the development of patchy dense fog.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeLocalized dense fog developed near the Abajo mountains throughout the night of November 23-24. The KU64 AWOS at the Monticello City Airport reported over five hours of reduced visibility due to freezing fog prior to midnight. However, 1/4-mile visibility was only briefly reached three times during this period, lasting no longer than 20 minutes each time. No reports of injuries, damages, or fatalities were received.
