The dense fog became more prevalent across the San Joaquin Valley overnight and remained persistent in the south end of the valley until late morning on January 2. The fog also contributed to a serious accident on SR 99 during the late morning south of Bakersfield which injured a motorist. The fog lifted into a low cloud deck by midday.
